FIC Associate Director Appointed to Dietary Guidelines Committee
Columbus, Ohio – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) appointed Dr. Steven Clinton to the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee along with 14 other experts.
The committee will advise the information to be included in the eighth edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The publication is updated every five years by HHS and USDA. The Dietary Guidelines provide information on nutrition programs, standards and education, as well as population-specific nutrition recommendations.
Clinton is currently John B. and Jane T. McCoy Chair of Cancer Research for The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center and professor of Internal Medicine in the division of Medical Oncology. Clinton is dedicated to cancer prevention through diet and nutrition as highlighted through his work with the Food Innovation Center. His Seed Grant funded projects include the creation of a tomato soy juice to prevent prostate cancer.
